A worn vintage print from the 1800s. A second hand shop in San Francisco in the 1990s.

I have appropriated various faces from the print, manipulating and creating a variety of body forms to suit the portraits. Working backwards, I developed a collage technique, revealing only portions of the original photograph—a skeletal cloudy effect created by time-consuming scraping away of layers.

The original pieces which are 4” x 4”  have been enlarged to make archival prints.

A haunting and meaningful spiritual message about letting go, fading, and finding beauty along the way.
